Being forced to cook during a pandemic. I still don't like cooking. It's coarse and rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere!
It takes a thousand years and it is so laborious: you have to peel and chop various things up which takes at least 10 mins on its own, and then you have to plan how the cooking will go so that all the components are ready together and one bit does not overcook while you’re paying attention to another bit. I always misjudge that.
I hate anything that requires more than 1 cooking vessel, I hate cooking large pieces of meat (I can never get them cooked all the way through the first time) and I do not use the oven or the grill, because I don’t know how to turn it on. The ignition button has… broken off and I guess I could reach in with a match but am worried about doing a Sylvia Plath.
Even salads and antipasto platters are dreary and time-consuming to make.
But I have to admit the rona has forced me to cook more and expand my repertoire.
I just made myself a lunch of kimchi noodles with bacon and carrot. The sauce was garlic, gochujang, soy sauce, black vinegar, brown sugar and sesame oil. It still took forever and I resented having to make it, but it was very tasty.
